We are blessed with a diverse community of poker players from all over the US, Canada and some European insomniacs. We have males, female, street3's, etc. I think it would be insightful to exchange gift ideas for the upcoming holiday seasons so that we can provide better gifts to our family members, significant others, etc.
So, go ahead and post some info about who you are shopping for and hopefully someone with some insight into what that person may like can chime in.
I'll kick it off:
I am looking for something for mscprpoker. I am thinking maybe a stylish winter jacket (she already has a heavy North Face, so something stylish).
Or any other gifty ideas for a 30 something year old female business chica would be great.

Thanks for inviting me to post my opinions Mr. PokerMan Well, I would love to help u with ideas for mscprpoker since I too am a 30 something year old female. Ok, as far as the jacket is concerned, I think its a great idea. Also remember that girls can never have enough shoes. What is hot now are those "booties" (the short boot right up to the ankle). And last but not least, u could never go wrong with a spa day of some sort. I am sure she likes to get pampered. Hair, nails, massage, facial, etc. So…I hope I helped a bit and thanks again for inviting me here. Even thought I do not play poker, I still feel like i'm part of the fam.
Peace & Love

Thanks LesleaC!!!!
Those boots are a good idea! Any particular brand/style/look you recommend for the winter jacket?

I'll chip in since I'm also a 30something business chica.
I was glancing at http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/60…..rigin=wdlp – can search jackets/coats by color, fabric etc. Prices run from about $100 to about $1000, I think (Do I need to express prices in dollars or BBs or buyins?) ;)
For the jacket – an issue is how warm should this be? I love a gorgeous leather jacket, but they don't stand up to Boston winters like a wool or fur would. Looking at Nordstrom's website, you can se leather stuff that ranges from motorcycle-style hip to more traditional hip-length styles.
I personally love short wool coats in pretty colors – something other than the "practical" camel/grey/black/navy – I think they come off as a much more luxury item than the usual types. So if she likes hot pink or lime or red or whatever, I think that could work.
Fur jackets are warm but pricey and some people are anti-fur, so controversy there.
Does the missus have designers or brands she prefers?
ITA with Leslea ( hi Leslea!) about the spa services. Almost always a super FAB idea. The booties are v. ot this year but people either love them (most of the fashion world) or hate them (me) so YMMV.
Ok, I'll stop rambling now!

And I also have a question. I have a step-brother and guy cousins in their mid 20s that I
find very hard to shop for. These aren't people I see a lot & I'm looking for fairly modestly priced stuff. Any ideas?
Also some guy friends in their 30s.
Men are so hard to buy for!!

You have a unique problem, my friend. The combination of "stylish" plus "warm enough for Boston in February" is hard to find. Are you thinking something warm enough for a T commute, or something to wear out & to important work things (because North Face works sooo well for that ;) )?
I agree with lime re: Nordstrom – they also have kickass personal shoppers who can point out things in departments you might not have noticed. Granted, you have to drive to Natick but there you go.
Spa never goes badly, except I hate the Newton Atrium Grettacole.

Gift giving is a really tough subject. People are unique, so their gifts need to be so as well. But in general, I tend to avoid these top 10 items when giving to a women:
1. Vaccums (just ends badly)
2. A Toaster (A Giant slap is just coming)
3. Coupons for Love or Massages (Scream's "Oh Snap, I totally forgot about you, and was desperate for a last second filler."
4. Tools (hammers, drills, and socket wrenches are just missing something in the emotional category)
5. A motorcycle (she'll ask, "I thought you would get me something nice, like a necklace." You'll say "This IS better than a necklace." She'll say, "How?" And you'll say "Cause its not a stupid necklace.")
6. Things that explode (while REALLY cool for guys, not so much for women)
7. A bowling ball. (I mean, its heavy, AND its round. Strike one and two)
8. Flowers and Chocolate (any other day during the year, this is an acceptable gift. But for Christmas, don't give away your default apology gift. Save it for something meaningful like, the day after Christmas when you say "I'm sorry I got you a motorcycle instead of a stupid necklace." Just phrase it better.)
9. A book. (Only 2 things are going to come of this gift and they're both bad. She'll either hate it, and you'll be stuck with a book that she'll never read, and resent you for not being able to pick out her "Style" of reading. Or 2, she'll love it, in which case you'll lose her for however long it takes her to actually finish the book. Bad idea + Bad idea doesn't equal good idea.)
10. A new set of poker chips for the homegame. (goes without saying)
Steer clear of these items, and you'll probably be ok. Personally, I like to give my woman a gift that has a story or meaning to it. Last year, I got her tickets to see Phantom of the Opera at the Pantageous Theatre in Hollywood. That went over well. And the year before, I helped her open a REALLY large box, which contained a smaller box, and yet another smaller box, which I got down on a knee, and opened the ring inside, and asked her to spend the rest of our lives together. Probably won't ever top that one though.
But give her a gift that says "I was thinking about you, and this is why I chose this gift." Make sure you have the story as to WHY you chose that gift, and you'll win. And wrap it creatively. Always a plus. Half the fun is in that minute of anticipation just before the gift is opened, and the wonderment of what it could be. Have fun with it.
I'll do my list for guys later.

My wife loves books. I never go wrong buying those or gift cards to B&N. Then she picks out exactly what she wants. Sure, some people think they are impersonal, but this way there is no guessing and no need for exchanges. Also, she hates shoes, so that idea is out. Ive tried to get her to go to a nail place, she never seems interested.Win?
So glad to see Lesleac here. She brings an air of class with her.

Sports Related:
- Sports jersey's
- Poker related gifts (chips, cards, books)
- Tix to a Pro or minor league event (minor league events have great value imo)
Gadget related:
- Video game
- itunes gift card
- Best Buy giftcard *
- Amazon Gift card *
* Gift cards are a little less personal, except the itunes giftcard, I think those are pretty cool.

Yes, I agree, guys like sports and gadgets. Also for the ages u mentioned (thekeylime) I have noticed, for the most part, that men still care about their appearance. So maybe a gift card to a department store would be good. But a gift card in general is always nice and safe. It seems to be appreciated by the recipient cuz they can just get what they want/need.
Now back to the gals, especially Mrs. PokerMan. I have and love, love, love these boots… http://tiny.cc/jojC4
As far as the coat, you can't go wrong at a major department store. Its hard to recommend brand/style/etc. cuz I do not know Mrs. Pokerman. I will show u a few that are trendy now, such as the "A line" or bright colors, but she has to be comfi in it, ya know.
Bright Colors: http://tiny.cc/U94es
A line: http://tiny.cc/tdtUY
Safe, not too trendy: http://tiny.cc/gJRA2
Hope this helps!! Happy shopping gang!!
