Your choice, obviously, but I would have folded when the old crack head bet.

Hmm… I think that once you called the flop over-bet, and you caught your gutshot, you were pretty committed to going the whole way. However, it may have been interesting to go with something like a min or 2.5x raise of his turn bet, to see what he would do, but the push isn't unreasonable.
So, we really need to go back to the flop and your check-call of his over-bet. You don't have anything close to the right odds to call for a gutshot draw and even if you talk yourself into that, do you really think there's any future value if a Q does hit?
I think that you had a pretty clear (and, also, pretty easy check-fold on that flop…

Guess that will teach me to chase a gutshot w/o right odds…. thanks for your input!!!

I was only bringing in the pot odds, because they help to illustrate when a fold/call can be considered "mathematically correct".
As for lessons learned, I think the one real takeaway from this is "bad players can make really bad plays/calls and still get stupid lucky on you", aka. "that's poker! ".
In terms of chasing a gutshot, early in the tournament is a great time to do it, especially when calling the flop isn't a huge percentage of your stack. I just look for spots where hitting the straight is a bit more hidden than 4 broadway cards on the board.

He played KK horribly, but he did manage to get paid by someone playing J2. Obviously, you cannot call that bet on the flop. You need to know you only have 4 outs, and even then, you might be chopping (Anyone with AJ, KJ, QJ, JT etc etc etc). So when you call there, you are a long shot, and someone else might just be freerolling with a made hand when the best you can do is split it 50/50.
Once the turn comes, it's a suck, re-suck. You had it coming, so tough to complain.
