Hey , we all know tournament poker  is a different animal than ring and cash games. We also know  there are fad and trends we have to contend with if we are to be successful in our poker endeavors. Maybe its just me, and allow me to vent, but AQ IS NOT a premium hand despite the fact it has cost me probably thousands over the long run. I've even heard certain Lags who shall remain nameless to  say "AQ is my most profitable hand in NLHE" and that MAY be true, if you PLAY  IT you donkey fucker… anyway, I  wanted to say that yes, I lose to a "Moon" often, but I lose with AA more often, so shouldn't  I fold AA? I could add years on my life and be a much happier man if I had the ballls to fold AA! I cannot think of a single hand I've lost more money on than AA. Another new trend that seems to be rearing its ugly head is the mini raise, which we all know is a blatent sign that says "fuck me" with a post it note on his forehead. Another is the compulsive 3 bettor, just 3 bet back at him! Anyway, enjoy, have fun and CASH$$$$$$

Before any noobs get the wrong idea…..

To raise a 3bet is to "4bet".

Beyond that, AA is the most profitable hand in any form of poker. I find it highly unlikely that anyone can prove that AA is not their most profitable hand.

Here is a list of my top hands in terms of BB/100

As you can see AA is far and away the most profitable, with AQ not far down the list.

And to be perfectly honest, hands have very little to do with anything. Position is 4x more important than you hand. Once you figure this out, you will be well on your way to being a winning player.

It's how you play your hand, and what position you play it from.

The cards themselves are way down the list in order of priority.

As a general strategy I will say this though…. early in tournaments, you need to play a TAG style, and late in tournaments as your M decreases (your M is your Stack/(BB + SB + [antes x # of players at the table]) you need to play more LAG.

Here is a hand I just played in the 40K on Pokerstars.

The villain is a Super Nova Elite player. He played the hand extremely well. The sick part is, I knew he had one of two hands when he 3bet me. Then when the K hit, I know I was toast.

He puts in the 3bet preflop. And him being a very skilled player, I know he isn't getting out of line on the third hand of the tournament. But I decide to set mine knowing that I can probably double up if I hit my J.

He flops the nuts though, and makes the idiotic bet, trying to induce a bluff. I just call it to see how the hand develops. Which was stupid in itself, but for 100, sure.

On the turn he fills up and insta-checks behind me. Which is exactly what I would have done. The whole time I know exactly what he is doing.

He does this because he has the second nuts (to 88), and wants me to either hit my flush or straight, whatever I am chasing. So he lets me see a free river.

Then when the third heart hits, I lead into him for half the pot, hoping he has TT or something and just calls. This was a stupid bet, really stupid. If I check here, he puts in a value bet, and even if I look him up, I lose far less. But I should be folding.

But, when I lead into him, he shoves. This was great. It looks like a bluff. And he knows if I am trying to value bet the flush I hit on the river, that I am def calling.

Well, there is no possible way I should be calling here. But, I was just too curious. I had "KK?" typed into the chat box, and just had to know.

Completely horrendous call. There is no way a skilled player is shoving there as a bluff this early in the tournament.

But I couldn't resist.

I just wanted to post this as a great example of how to play the nuts, and how not to play my hand.
