Here is a hand I just played in the 40K on Pokerstars.
The villain is a Super Nova Elite player. He played the hand extremely well. The sick part is, I knew he had one of two hands when he 3bet me. Then when the K hit, I know I was toast.
He puts in the 3bet preflop. And him being a very skilled player, I know he isn't getting out of line on the third hand of the tournament. But I decide to set mine knowing that I can probably double up if I hit my J.
He flops the nuts though, and makes the idiotic bet, trying to induce a bluff. I just call it to see how the hand develops. Which was stupid in itself, but for 100, sure.
On the turn he fills up and insta-checks behind me. Which is exactly what I would have done. The whole time I know exactly what he is doing.
He does this because he has the second nuts (to 88), and wants me to either hit my flush or straight, whatever I am chasing. So he lets me see a free river.
Then when the third heart hits, I lead into him for half the pot, hoping he has TT or something and just calls. This was a stupid bet, really stupid. If I check here, he puts in a value bet, and even if I look him up, I lose far less. But I should be folding.
But, when I lead into him, he shoves. This was great. It looks like a bluff. And he knows if I am trying to value bet the flush I hit on the river, that I am def calling.
Well, there is no possible way I should be calling here. But, I was just too curious. I had "KK?" typed into the chat box, and just had to know.
Completely horrendous call. There is no way a skilled player is shoving there as a bluff this early in the tournament.
But I couldn't resist.
I just wanted to post this as a great example of how to play the nuts, and how not to play my hand.
